How to choose a water softener

A correctly sized water softener supplies your home without unnecessarily frequent regeneration or excessive capacity. Three main criteria help narrow down the choice, followed by a check of your plumbing and available space.

The criteria that matter

1. People in the household

More residents generally means more water consumption and a greater resin-capacity requirement. A studio has different needs from a family of five or a large villa. Your actual consumption is useful alongside the headcount.

2. Water hardness

Harder water uses the resin’s exchange capacity more quickly, so regeneration is needed more often. The appropriate capacity therefore depends on your local measurement. Hardness varies between municipalities and sometimes neighbourhoods.

3. Mono or Duo?

A Mono model has one resin tank. While it regenerates, usually at night, the incoming water is temporarily not softened. Duo models have two tanks that alternate, maintaining a softened supply during regeneration. This can suit larger households, several bathrooms or commercial use.
